  Union Heavy Industry Minister to dedicate BHEL's UHV Transformer to nation
BHEL & MPPGCL to sign MoU to set up 2x800 MW Supercritical Thermal Power Plant at Khandwa

Bhopal, November 16 (Pervez Bari): Union Minister of Heavy Industry and Public Enterprises, Vilasrao Deshmukh will dedicate to the nation Ultra High Voltage, (UHV), Transformer Block in Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, (BHEL), Bhopal unit here on Tuesday at 11.30 am.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Union Minister of State Heavy Industry and Public Enterprises, Arun Yadav, shall be present on the occasion.
The new UHV transformer block is one more feather in BHEL's cap which boasts of advanced Technology with most modern and sophisticated equipments/machines comparable with the best in the world. This new facility will enable BHEL, Bhopal to produce additional 12000 MVA of Transformers thereby increasing the total installed capacity at Bhopal to 30000 MVA per annum and total capacity of BHEL to 45000 MVA including the BHEL, Jhansi plant. The UHV transformer block will enable BHEL to fulfill its commitment of making the country self-reliant in power through significant contribution towards the growth of transmission sector in India and UHV technology in particular.
The new UHV transformer Block has state of the art manufacturing technology, dust free & controlled atmosphere, air conditioned bay for winding works, pressurized bay for Core building and final assembly, EOT cranes for lifting loads up to 450 tons, Iso static Pressing Device for windings, Air Cushion Transport System for Movement of Equipment & Machinery and attached UHV Laboratory for testing Transformers up to 1200 kV class.
Meanwhile, a Memorandum of Understanding, (MoU), would be signed between BHEL and Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company Limited, (MPPGCL), on Tuesday for formation of a Joint venture company to set up 2x800 MW Supercritical Thermal Power Plant in Khandwa, Madhya Pradesh.
The MoU shall be signed at Noor-us-Sabha Palace at 6 pm in the presence of Chouhan, Arun Yadav, and Minister of Energy, MP Government, Rajendra Shukla shall be present on the occasion.
It may be mentioned here that BHEL is the largest engineering and manufacturing enterprise in India in the energy related/infrastructure sector today. Established as Heavy Electricals Private Limited, at Bhopal it came into existence after being registered on August 29, 1956. BHEL manufactures over 180 products and caters to core sectors of the Indian Economy, viz. Power Generation & Transmission, Industry, Transportation, Telecommunication, Renewable energy etc. Out of its 14 Manufacturing Divisions, BHEL Bhopal is the oldest one.
Over the past five decades, BHEL has pioneered the Power Transmission Sector of the country by successfully supplying entire range of Power Transformers and Shunt reactors. There have been many first to the credit of BHEL in the evolution of UHV Technology of the country. It is anticipated that Supercritical Thermal Power Plants of 800 MW and Nuclear Power Plants of 700 MW and 1000 MW will further boost up the demand of Transformers in a great way. Anticipating the demand of transformers as 1,20,000 MVA per year, BHEL has taken gigantic steps in this direction.(pervezbari@eth.net)
