Foreign students of AMU hold cultural program
Bhopal, March 20 (Pervez Bari): A cultural program of foreign students of
Aligarh Muslim University, (AMU), was organized by the Advisor, Foreign
Students.
Students from Iran, Afghanistan, Indonesia, Mauritius and Thailand presented the
various aspects of their country through PowerPoint presentations. Lt. Gen. Andi
M. Ghalib, Ambassador of Indonesia, and Mr. Mustapha Ahmed Mohammed Noman,
Ambassador of Yemen, were the Guests of Honor on the occasion.
According to Dr. Rahat Abrar, Public Relations’ Officer of AMU, Mr. Andi M.
Ghalib, Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia, said that Aligarh Muslim
University is among the best universities in India. Every year many of
Indonesian students prefer AMU as the first institution of their choice for
higher studies. He hoped that these students will be the future leaders of
Indonesia and we would be grateful that our leaders have had the best education
in your esteemed university.
Mr. Ghalib said that relationship between Indonesia and India would serve the
long term interests enhancing all-round cooperation and contribution to regional
and global peace and stability. He said that today’s cultural program is indeed
a very important event to rebound our long cultural connection as well as to
build and promote mutual understanding and friendship among the students from
different countries through their culture. Mr. Mustapha Ahmed Mohammed Noman,
Ambassador of Yemen, paid rich tributes to Sir Syed Ahmad Khan, the founder of
this great seat of learning, and pointed out that he opened its doors to all
without any discrimination on the ground of caste, creed or religion and he felt
that education has no religion.
In his presidential address, AMU Vice Chancellor, Prof. P. K. Abdul Azis said:
"We are trying of our best to attract foreign students at AMU. We are also
planning to provide better accommodation to these foreign students and to create
a new brand image of the University".
Earlier, Prof. Muzaffar A Siddiqui, Advisor, Foreign Students, in his welcome
address said that AMU is reviving one of its old tradition of bringing together
the students from abroad and hoped that such events would not only help the
University regain its past glory but shall touch new heights.
Prof. Siddiqui said that AMU needs an International Hostel with a capacity of
400 to 500 students with an exclusive wing for foreign students with families. A
separate hostel for girl students along with a block of twelve transit houses
located in the Medical Colony should be provided at the University campus.
AMU Registrar, Prof. V. K. Abdul Jaleel proposed a vote of thanks while Dr.
