BHEL Bhopal ED leads staff in offering ‘shramdan’ for de-silting Upper Lake
Bhopal, January 18 (Pervez Bari): Under the movement, “Apna Sarovar, Apni Dharohar”, more than 4000 employees, their family members, representatives of various Unions, Supervisory Association and residents of Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, (BHEL), township volunteered "shramdan" (labour) at Upper Lake, the lifeline of Bhopal, under the leadership of M.K. Dube, Executive Director, BHEL, Bhopal.
Sunil Sood, Mayor, Bhopal, Dr. Pukhraj Maru, Commissioner, Bhopal, R. D. Tripathi, President, Madhya Pradesh INTUC, R. K. Bhasin, Group General Manager, BHEL and other General Managers were also present on this occasion. Mrs. Bharti Dube, president, BHEL ladies Club along with other members were also present at Upper Lake for de-silting.
“The Upper Lake at Bhopal is not only lifeline for BHEL factory or the residents of Bhopal, but for the entire city and it is the utmost duty of all people to save the lake at any cost,” said Dube during the de-silting drive at Upper Lake. He said that this voluntary service will attach people with Nature and create awareness for water conservation. He asked the people to save every drop of water as there is no alternate to it. He also highly appreciated the drive by the administration to conserve Upper Lake.
Sunil Sood and Dr. Maru applauded the selfless drive of the BHEL family and said that employees of BHEL have always been pioneers in such welfare works. They said that welfare of the society is an impartial part of the BHEL employees.
It is notable that BHEL employees in large numbers had volunteered their services for de-silting the Upper Lake in 2002 also. (pervezbari@eth.net)

BHEL Bhopal Unit achieves yet another milestone
Bhopal, September 30 (Pervez Bari): Electrical Machines Group in Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited, (BHEL), Bhopal Unit has achieved another milestone by developing Special Electrical Test facility, such as High Voltage Test on Stator Capsule and Impulse test on Stator coil in an explosive gas atmosphere containing Hydrogen on 6.6kv & 11kv motors in presence of CIMFR Scientists. S. R. Prasad, GM (EM), A. K. Dhingra, AGM (IMS) and other senior officers were present on this occasion.
BHEL, Bhopal is engaged in supply of AC Motors and Generators up to 25 MW to the Industry. In Refinery, Petrochemical & Fertilizer sector the installation contain explosive gases. Electrical machines operating in such installation are potential hazards and to ensure safety of personal and installation, machines are to be specially designed and manufactured and are to be certified by statutory bodies before use.
The special design, constructional and testing requirements are specified in IS/IEC 6381-2004 for increased safety type Ex’e’ machines and IS/IEC 60079-15-2005 for Non sparking type Ex’n’ machines. These national standards have been revised in 2004-2005 and made more stringent in line with International (IEC) Standards. Special Electrical Tests viz., High Voltage test on Stator Capsule and Impulse test on Stator Coil in an explosive gas atmosphere containing Hydrogen are now mandatory for voltages above 6 kv. Test facility for these tests do not exist in any Laboratory or Industry in India. BHEL has taken the lead and developed special facility at their Bhopal works.
With this development, BHEL has achieved yet another milestone and shall be able to supply increased safety and non-sparking motors to the industry, as per the requirements of revised standards. This development shall instill confidence in customers of BHEL’s capability and is expected to further boost the order book. (pervezbari@eth.net)
