Uma Bharati loses from home turf
Monday, 08 December , 2008, Bhopal: Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister and Bhartiya Jan Shakti (BJS) party's founder president Uma Bharati on Monday lost the Tikamgarh seat, her home turf.
Yadvendra Singh Bundela of the Congress trounced her with a margin of more than 3,000 votes as the votes were counted for the assembly elections held on November 27.
BJP set to retain power in M.P.
Uma Bharati, a firebrand leader who had to quit the Bharatiya Janata Party, had maintained that her aim was not the victory of her party but to defeat the incumbent BJP government.
Barely two days ago, she had told mediapersons in Tikamgarh that if she does not succeed in her mission then she will give up politics for good and go to Kedarnath. She had said she would quit politics if BJP won in Madhya Pradesh.

General elections should not be advanced: Digvijay Singh
Monday, 08 December , 2008, New Delhi: The Congress may be heading for power in three of the five states following assembly elections but a cautious Digvijay Singh on Monday said the result did not reflect national mood and the party would prefer general elections only in April.
“April is all right. I don't think we should advance the elections. There is no need to advance it,” the veteran leader told reporters. Reacting to the impact of these elections on the Lok Sabha polls due early next year, Digvijay Singh said: “These elections don't tell the national mood.”
His colleague and party spokesperson Jayanti Natarajan disagreed: "It (the results) certainly will have an impact on the general elections (next year)."
Reacting to the poor showing in Madhya Pradesh, Digvijay Singh said: “We have to look into the results.” But he rubbished the idea that groupism and intra-party conflict had led to defeat in the state.
