Inter-Unit Quality Circle Convention conducted at BHEL Bhopal unit
Bhopal, November 14 (Pervez Bari): The 19th Inter-Unit Quality Circle Convention was conducted at Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) Bhopal unit here on Friday.
Anil Sachdev, Director, HR, who as chief guest, in his inaugural address emphasized on making BHEL, the most trusted brand through collective efforts of the employees. While appreciating the role of quality circles, he stressed upon how quality circles promote team work, healthy work environment, innovativeness of employees to improve work culture.
Sachdev, said that timely delivery, high quality and cost reduction in this tough competitive market are the key issues confronting the organization and quality circles can contribute on all these fronts. He emphasisesd on tapping the creative potential of employees for improving the products.
R. K. Singh, Executive Director, BHEL, Bhopal shared his views on the growth of quality circles in BHEL. He shared that BHEL is having orders more than Rs. 1.2 lakh crores and there is a need to increase installed capacity from 1.5 lakh MW to 7.5 lakh MW over next ten years. He stressed that this higher order delivery target can only be achieved through Daily work Management, team work and quality and for that we have to promote quality circle movement.
A.K. Jain, Executive Director, Corporate Quality, shared the 30 per cent of our employees is involved in Quality Circle movement at the corporation level. Looking at the growth of Quality Circles in hospitals, he shared that in this convention there shall be a separate competitive category for Hospital related Quality Circles. He gave the slogan ‘Each one –reach one’ for further growth of quality circles.
S. R. Udpa, the pioneer of Quality Circle movement in BHEL and at national level shared his experiences where in a lot of resistance, was faced in initial stages while propagating this concept. He was instrumental in organizing the first Quality Circle convention at Hyderabad in 1981. And later instrumental in setting up of Quality Circle Forum of India which is a premier organisation for propagating Quality Circles and became its first Executive Director.
Earlier, in his welcome address, Prabhat Kumar, GM, P & D, threw light on the importance of quality circles in solving various operational and business related problems. The inaugural function was attended by K.C. Lahiri , Ex-Director, Power, H.A. Ghanekar, Ex-Executive Director, BHEL, Bhopal, and Z. H. Alvi Ex-GM, HEEP, Hardwar.
A.K. Mittal, Head of Department, Management Engineering, IIT, Kanpur, A. L. N. Murthy, Director, ISI-Hyderabad and B.N. Saxena, Consultant with long Quality Circle experience are the judges for the convention. Kishore Purswani, AGM(BEX & EC) proposed vote of thanks. (pervezbari@eth.net)
