Reduce taxes on petroleum products - Uma Bharati
June 04, 2008, Bhopal: The Bharatiya Janshakti (BJS) party Wednesday
appealed to the Madhya Pradesh government to reduce its share of taxes
on petroleum products to provide relief to the people.
BJS leader Uma Bharati told newspersons that the Congress-led United
Progressive Alliance government has no right to stay in power since
the common man has suffered the most in the past four years of its
rule.
The state's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) criticised the hike in
petroleum prices saying that it was yet another black day when the
people have been made to suffer on account of the wrong policies of
the UPA government.
"The central government, led by the Congress, is unleashing economic
terrorism on the people by failing to control inflation on the one
hand and increasing the prices of petroleum products on the other,"
said BJP spokesman Uma Shankar Gupta.
Communist Party of India (Marxist) state politburo member Badal Saroj
said the hike in prices of petroleum products could have been avoided
had the government framed its policies as suggested by his party.
The PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Phdcci) said the hike in
prices of petroleum products will have a direct fallout on the
consumers.
"The hike in prices of petroleum products will also lead to rise in
prices of various products for which the consumer will ultimately have
to pay," said Phdcci resident director Rajendra Kothari. (IANS)
