Suspense in
Cong over ticket claimants
Bhopal, June 10: Suspense is prevailing among State Congress leaders
over the statement of Union Minister and in-charge of Madhya Pradesh
Affairs V Narayan Sami, whether those defeated over 5,000 votes’
margin would get ticket in forthcoming assembly elections.
During his recent visit to Bhopal, Sami had clearly said that the
party would contest assembly elections on the line of Karnataka, as in
Karnataka elections the leaders who were defeated more than 5,000
votes last time, were not fielded. There are over a dozen party
leaders including former Speaker Shrinivas Tiwari who were defeated in
last election with huge margin, who would be not be allowed to contest
election. State Congress General Secretary Rajiv Singh, however told
that the party has not decided anything on the matter. The Union
Minister had given a statement in this regard when media persons
questioned him.
Party sources claimed that efforts for selecting candidates for all
the 230 constituencies has commenced. State Congress headquarters has
issued a prescribe performa to all district Congress committee
presidents seeking information on several points. Besides asking them
to suggest three probably candidates for assembly elections with their
merits and demerits, they have been asked to give details of those
regions where public meetings of senior party leaders could be
orgnaised.
“The feedback would reach here by June 30, and then the probable
candidates would be cross-checked by senior party leaders at three
levels. A panel of senior party leaders is already touring
constituencies to sense the moods of voters,” sources said. Meanwhile,
process has also been initiated for forming divisional level
coordinating committees that would accelerate in strengthening the
orgnaisaiton and selecting the candidates effectively. The PCC has
already announced five state-level coordination committees.
