Suspense in Cong over ticket claimants
Bhopal, June 10: Suspense is prevailing among State Congress leaders over the statement of Union Minister and in-charge of Madhya Pradesh Affairs V Narayan Sami, whether those defeated over 5,000 votes’ margin would get ticket in forthcoming assembly elections.
During his recent visit to Bhopal, Sami had clearly said that the party would contest assembly elections on the line of Karnataka, as in Karnataka elections the leaders who were defeated more than 5,000 votes last time, were not fielded. There are over a dozen party leaders including former Speaker Shrinivas Tiwari who were defeated in last election with huge margin, who would be not be allowed to contest election. State Congress General Secretary Rajiv Singh, however told that the party has not decided anything on the matter. The Union Minister had given a statement in this regard when media persons questioned him.
Party sources claimed that efforts for selecting candidates for all the 230 constituencies has commenced. State Congress headquarters has issued a prescribe performa to all district Congress committee presidents seeking information on several points. Besides asking them to suggest three probably candidates for assembly elections with their merits and demerits, they have been asked to give details of those regions where public meetings of senior party leaders could be orgnaised.
“The feedback would reach here by June 30, and then the probable candidates would be cross-checked by senior party leaders at three levels. A panel of senior party leaders is already touring constituencies to sense the moods of voters,” sources said. Meanwhile, process has also been initiated for forming divisional level coordinating committees that would accelerate in strengthening the orgnaisaiton and selecting the candidates effectively. The PCC has already announced five state-level coordination committees.
