Two national awards for child welfare
and development
Bhopal, May 09 (Pervez Bari): Two national awards have been instituted
for honouring those working for children's welfare and talented
children with a view to promoting them. These awards would be given
away by Union Woman and Child Development Ministry.
Rajiv Gandhi Humanitarian Service Award has been instituted to honour
individuals working in the field of protection, development and
welfare of children by the Union Woman and Child Development Ministry.
The award would go the person who would have actively worked in this
field for the last ten years.
Another award titled as 'National Child Award for Exceptional
Achievement' would be bestowed on such a child who would have made
major and remarkable achievements in educational, cultural, sports or
any other activity. Children from four to 15 years of age would be
eligible for this award.
Guidelines for proposal for this award can be seen at the office of
District Programme Officer, Woman and Child Development at working
hours from 10 am to five pm every day except holidays. Desirous
persons can submit their proposals along with bio-data to District
Programme Officer, Woman and Child Development within 15 days. (pervezbari@eth.net)

girls benefited under Ladli Laxmi
Bhopal, May 09: A total of 13,106 girls were given the benefit of
Ladli Laxmi Yojana during the year 2007-08 in Jabalpur division which
is the maximum in the state. The division achieved 259 percent success
against the target fixed under the scheme. The scheme is being
implemented by the state government with a view to improving
educational and economic condition of girls apart from laying the
foundation for their bright future.
A target to give benefit of Ladli Laxmi Yojana to 1853 girls was set
for Mandla district which achieved 422 percent success against the
target and thus topped in the entire state while Chhindwara district
stood third by benefiting 3039 girls and achieving 351 percent success
against the target. Seoni district with 257 percent target achievement
secured third position in the state. Here 1541 girls were benefit
under the scheme. During the year Jabalpur district started giving
benefit to 2709 girls, achieved 251 success in target implementation
and thus stood fifth. Similarly, beginning was made in Balaghat
district to make 1580 girls Lakhpatis during the year. The district
achieved 224 success in target achievement and stood seventh. Dindori
district secured ninth position by benefiting 730 girls and achieving
219 success in target achievement. Narsinghpur district benefited 1009
girls and secured tenth position. As many as 645 girls were benefited
under Ladli Laxmi Yojana in Katni district where target achievement
percentage was 119.
Ladli Laxmi Yojana gives benefit to the girls born after January 1,
2006. Under the scheme National Savings Certificate worth Rs 6000 is
purchased in the name of a girl every year for five years. This
amounts of Rs 30,000. Every girl covered by the scheme is given Rs
2,000 on admission in class VI, Rs 4,000 on admission in class IX, Rs
7,500 on admission in class XI and Rs 200 per month during studies in
classes XI and XII. Lump sum payments would be made to a girl at the
age of 21 years if she does not get married before 18 years of age and
appears at examination of class XII. In this way she would get total
amount to the tune of Rs one lakh.
