  Post-graduate seats to be increased in Medical Colleges of MP

Bhopal, January 20 (Pervez Bari): A proposal has been sent to the Union government for increasing 55 seats in Madhya Pradesh's medical colleges for present post-graduate courses as well as post-graduate courses in new streams.
With the availability of these seats, the state will have more medical teachers and specialists. This information was revealed by Minister for Medical Education, Public Health & Family Welfare, Biodiversity & Biotechnology and Public Grievances Redressal Anup Mishra.
Medical Education Minister Mishra informed that at present about 400 seats of diploma and degree courses are available with 50 percent quota of the Union government. Adequate number of medical teachers are not available in the state due to lesser seats in post-graduate seats in the state's quota. With this in view, the Madhya Pradesh Government has urged the Union government to allot 16 post-graduate seats in microbiology, psychiatry, dermatology, forensic medicine and transfusion medicine. At present, post-graduate education in these streams is not available in the state's medical colleges.
The Medical Education Minister informed that the Union government has also been urged to increase 39 seats in the available post-graduate courses. These include anatomy, physiology, community medicine, pathology, ENT, surgery, medicine, gynaecology and paediatrics.
The proposal made by the state government will involve a burden of Rs. 68 crore 22 lakh 60 thousand. A team of the Union government will soon visit the state to study the proposal. Later, it will be studied by the technical committee. (pervezbari@eth.net)

M. P. efforts to check mother & child mortality rate lauded
Bhopal, January 20 (Pervez Bari): An 11-member team of National Rural Health Mission from New Delhi has lauded the efforts of Madhya Pradesh Government in checking mother and child mortality rate and increasing the number of institutional deliveries.
The team also praised the state government’s decision to establish a call centre and start emergency vehicle express in every district, which will provide Medicare to general patients as well besides pregnant women under Janani Express Yojana.
The team comprised of Director Union Health Ministry Arun Baroka, Assistant Commissioner Dr. Manish Malhotra, Assistant Commissioner Dr. S. Sikandar, Assistant Commissioner Dr. B Kishore, Consultant Dr. Thelka Narayan, Dr. Ganga Kumar, consultant Dr. Ravish Behel, consultant Dr. Ushma Sharma, consultant Ms Geetanjali Agrawal, consultant Dr. Kalyani and Financial Controller Sanjeev Gupta. From Madhya Pradesh side, Health Secretary S. R. Mohanty, Health Commissioner Manohar Agnani, Director Health Ashok Sharma, A. N. Mittal and Joint Director of Health Mission S. K. Shrivastava attended the meeting.
Apart from reviewing the activities of the Health Mission in Madhya Pradesh, the team also reviewed the action plan for the year 2010-11. The team lauded Madhya Pradesh government for increasing percentage of institutional deliveries from 26 to 72 per cent. They also praised the decision to establish intensive care units for new born children at every district headquarter and planning to extend the scheme to other areas of the state as well. Health Secretary Mohanty informed the team that the Chief Minister and the Health Minister have instructed to turn the programmes to check mother and child mortality rate into a mission.
