Authority to be established in MP for development of Delhi-Mumbai Industrial
Corridor
Bhopal, January 18 (Pervez Bari): The Madhya Pradesh State Government will soon
establish an Authority for development and implementation of Delhi-Mumbai
Industrial Corridor project in the state.
The above decision was taken at a meeting chaired by the state Chief Minister
Shivraj Singh Chouhan at Mantralaya, the state secretariat, during a
presentation related to the corridor before the state government.
This corridor will be a Dedicated Rail Freight Corridor between New Delhi and
Mumbai. Under it, a high impact development area will be developed on 150
kilometre stretch on both sides of the corridor in six states including Madhya
Pradesh. The corridor covers about 14 percent population of the country. In
these states, 24 integrated areas have been identified in which there will be 11
investment areas and 13 industrial areas. The corridor being development as an
international manufacturing and trade centre, is being constructed with the
assistance of Japan. It will cost about Rs. 150 million US dollars. Half of the
expenditure will be borne by the Government of India and the rest of half by
Japan.
The meeting was informed that an empowered committee has already been
constituted under the chairmanship of Madhya Pradesh Chief Secretary Rakesh
Sahni for implementing the projects under the corridor in Madhya Pradesh.
Besides, a steering committee has been constituted and project consultant has
been appointed.
Chief Minister Chouhan instructed to present a blueprint about acquisition of
private lands for the corridors under Madhya Pradesh-related projects at the
earliest. He said that situations prevailing in Madhya Pradesh as well related
policies of other states should be kept in view while chalking out the project
draft. He said that it is also necessary to keep in mind the interests of
private land owners as well as the state. At the meeting, Delhi-Mumbai
Industrial Corridor Development Corporation's managing director and chief
executive officer Amitabh Kant gave a presentation focusing on proposed schemes
of the project in Madhya Pradesh.
The Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor covers 10 districts of Madhya Pradesh,
which is 24 percent of the state's total population and 20 percent of total area
of the state. Indore, Dhar, Shajapur, Ujjain, Dewas, Ratlam, Neemuch, Jhabua,
Mandsaur and Rajgarh districts have been included in this project.
Pithampur-Dhar-Mhow investment area and Ratlam-Nagda investment area,
Shajapur-Dewas and Neemuch-Nayagaon industrial areas have been identified in
integrated form. Pithampur-Dhar-Mhow investment area will be developed in 370
square kilometre area in ultra modern style. For this purpose, the area has been
designed as an international manufacturing hub, where industries will be set up
and economic development will be accelerated. Under Early Bird Schemes under the
project in the area, a 20.3 kilometre long and 13.85 square kilometre radius
economic corridor will be built from Indore airport to Pithampur industrial area
and a Knowledge City in Ujjain in 4.19 square kilometre area. This Knowledge
City will have educational and medical facilities besides availability of global
standard housing and business infrastructures.
A 1.75 square kilometre Multi-model Logistic Hub will be developed near
Pithampur industrial area. Besides, a project will be launched to improve water
supply to the area. Balanced development of general and housing-related
facilities in all the industrial zones.
Under the Economic Corridor, apart from link between Pithampur and Indore,
industrial development is proposed up to 300 metres on both sides of the present
road. This corridor will focus on BRT Terminal, IT industries, commerce,
tourism, public amenities, institutions, housing, research & development,
industry, expo & convention, present development and green belt.(pervezbari@eth.net)
