Makeup 101 For Everyone |
|
You have plenty of makeup sitting on your counter, your medicine
cabinet, your makeup bag. But has anyone ever told you the right
way to put on makeup?
Many women simply improvise their makeup application as they go.
They look at other women on TV, in the mall, or to co-workers
for ideas on how
something should be applied if she is not sure of the correct
way.
Well look no further! From concealer to eye color cosmetics,
these are the correct methods for applying makeup and to get the
maximum effect from them.
Concealer: Apply a small dot of concealer under your eye area.
Place it up to your lower lashes and on the innermost corner of
your eye. Gently pat the
concealer using a sponge or your fingertips.
You can also use concealer as an eye color primer, so apply just
a little to your upper eyelid and smooth over. Because the skin
around your eyes is so
sensitive, using your weakest finger, your ring finger, is the
best option.
Loose Powder: Be sure you have a good brush that is soft and
will last you a long time. Dip the brush into the powder and
then tap off the excess. Use
gentle, long downward strokes to blend the powder on your
forehead and work your way down to your chin. Cover your entire
face using this method.
Cheek Color: Using a soft cheek color brush, stroke the brush
evenly across the cheek color of your choice and tap off the
excess. You can use the three
finger method to find the right place to apply blush.
Using your first three fingers, place them below your eye and
snug on the side of your nose. Begin applying color to the other
side of your far finger. This is
the “apple” of the cheekbone.
Feather the color upward and along your cheekbone, stopping at
the top of the cheekbone, just below your temple. Your cheek
color should not begin before
your pupil or extent below your nose.
Eyeliner: Lightly stroke a single, fine line at base of your
upper eyelid next to your lash line from the inner corner of
your eye to the outer corner.
Draw another fine line just below your lower lashes, this time
moving from the outer corner to the inner corner of your eye. If
you want, you can soften the
line with an eye color applicator.
Important to remember is to only apply eyeliner above your upper
lashes and below your lower lashes, never on your inner eyelid.
This can irritate eyes as
well as the sensitive skin of your eyelids.
Mascara: Brush mascara on your lower lashes first, lightly
brushing the tip back and forth across the lashes. Then brush on
your upper lashes. For loner,
thicker-looking lashes, you can reapply one or two additional
coats.
Let the mascara dry between each coat. An often neglected fact
about mascara is that after you open it, you should replace it
every three to four months.
Doing so will make sure you get optimum product performance and
will help to ensure your mascara is free of harmful bacteria.
Lip Liner: Starting at the center of your upper lip, draw a
small V along your natural lip line. Work down to each corner
using short, feather-like strokes. Next,
line center of your lower lip.
Then starting at the corners of your lips, apply the liner
toward center to connect the lines. Make sure your lip liner is
in the same shade family as your lipstick
or a shade close to the color of your lips.
Lipstick: You can apply lipstick with or without a brush. To
apply lipstick without a brush: Keep your mouth relaxed and your
lips slightly apart.
Draw a V at the center of your upper lip, just inside your lip
liner. Then apply the lipstick, working from the center toward
each corner.
On your bottom lip, start at one corner and sweep the lipstick
slowly toward the opposite corner.
To apply lipstick with a brush: Stroke a lip color brush evenly
across the lipstick. Then stroke the color from the center to
the corners of your upper lip and
from corner to corner of your lower lip.
You can also multiply your color options by blending two or more
lipstick shades to achieve a totally new color. Use a lip brush
to blend lipsticks or layer
different shades of lipsticks.
