Scholars of Linguistics Deptt. Visit Bhopal for Research Work
Bhopal, April 3 (Pervez Bari): In view of the historical and
linguistics relevance of Bhopal a research team from the Department of
Linguistics in Aligarh Muslim University, (AMU), Aligarh visited
Bhopal to study the linguistic variation among languages spoken in
around the Bhopal city.
The team headed by Prof. A.R. Fatihi comprised of 17 students of MA
and Research scholars and two faculty members. They visited the
localities like - Budhwara, Islampura, Imami Gate, Noor Mahal Payga,
Roshanbagh, Aishbagh, Jahangirabad etc. to gather relevant linguistic
data from the residents of the locality. The purpose of this
linguistics survey is to assess the status of linguistic diversity
among the Hindi / Urdu speakers of the region.
The team will analyze the linguistic data and will publish the outcome
of the study. The Central Institute of Indian Languages, (CIIL),
Mysore is also planning to launch a mega project New Linguistic Survey
of India, (NLSI).
Talking to this Correspondent Prof. Fatihi said: " Bhopal Mein Logon
Ko Jazbati Satah Tak Urdu Se Lagao Hai Aur Yeh Zaban Ke Baqa Ka Zamin
Hai ".
This positive attitude of the people towards Urdu bodes well for the
language as it is in dire straits in Bhopal at present, Prof. Fatihi
remarked.
While spokesperson of the team Dr. Samina Surti speaking to this
correspondent the said that with the passage of time two languages
Urdu and Hindi came closer in Bhopal which is the symbol of linguistic
unity. She further added that Bhopal has always been a source of
attraction for linguists because of the historical moments of Sanchi.
Dr. Mohammad Ahsan, Regional Director of Maulana Azad National Urdu
University, (MANUU), Bhopal's Regional Centre, extended his help and
cooperation to the visiting team from Aligarh. He presented a memento
of Charminar to Prof. Fatihi, the leader of the team. (pervezbari@eth.net)
