Govt. of India institutes National Tribal Award
Bhopal, February 13 (Pervez Bari): Members of Scheduled Tribes performing outstandingly in various fields would now be awarded with the National Tribal Award. These annual awards are being instituted beginning the year 2008. The Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India has made a provision of Rs. 14 lakh for the four awards to be given away this year.
The Minister for Scheduled Tribes Welfare, Kunwar Vijay Shah said that the National Tribal Awards are being instituted to motivate the future generations of tribal population through performance of several tribal persons who manage to excel in different fields inspite of adverse geographical and cultural conditions. He said that such success stories should be publicly recognized so that the individuals concerned become role models for younger tribal generations.
The National Tribal Awards include National Award for the Best Janjatiya Achiever, National Award for Exemplary Community Services rendered to the Scheduled Tribes and National Award for the Best Performing ITDP/ITDA.
There would be two awards preferably one for a male Scheduled Tribe achiever and other for a female scheduled tribe achiever under the national award for the best Janjatiya achiever. The achiever giving outstanding performance at national or international sports events or outstanding performance in engineering, medical or any discipline at graduate level course or outstanding and long time contribution in the performing arts such as dance, drama visual arts etc. or outstanding contribution in the field of science, technology, entrepreneurship and biodiversity conservation and any other field will be given away this award. Each award would carry an amount of Rs. two lakh a letter of citation and a trophy.
The National Award for Exemplary Community Service rendered to the Scheduled Tribes would carry a cash prize of Rs. three lakh, a citation and a trophy. There would be one award for the exemplary contribution towards the development of any Scheduled Tribe community by individuals and organizations namely NGOs and voluntary organizations and community based groups.
There will be one award for the Best Performing Integrated Tribal Development Project (ITDP)/Integrated Tribal Development Agency (ITDA). The award would carry Rs. five lakh cash, a citation and a trophy. ITDP/ITDA will be required to use the award money for creation of community assets. The award money can be dovetailed with money available under any other scheme to them or their own funds.
A high level selection committee headed by Union Minister for Tribal Affairs will make the final selection for all the awards. Nominations recommended by the Madhya Pradesh Government will be considered for the award. The State Government shall ensure that the nominee has not received any award for the same achievement. All nomination would be received by August 31 of a particular year for consideration for the award of that year. The award would be announced on December one every year and will be given away in New Delhi. The awardees shall be invited to come to receive the award and travelling and other costs incurred by him/her would be reimbursed. (pervezbari@eth.net)

GNF School bids fond farewell to outgoing students
Bhopal, February 13 (Pervez Bari): The Gharib Nawaz Foundation School of Excellence bade a fond farewell to the outgoing students of Class Xth and distributed prizes to the outstanding students of the session 2007-08 at an impressive function here held the other day in the school premises.
Shahid Hussain Khan, IPS (retd.) who is former member of MP Public Service Commission & member secretary GNF, presided over the function. Umar Farooq Khatani, secretary MP Minorities Commission, was the chief guest while Prof. Samiullah Khan, a retired professor of English from Nutan College, and Maulana Daniyal Nizami from New Delhi, who is a member of GNF, were special guests of the function. Others who were seated on the dais included Dr. Zargham Haider, a retired professor; Prof. Saeed Akhtar, Director GNF; Mohammad Haneef, Principal of Kotra Sultanabad School and Mrs. M. Dube, a reputed teacher.
Zainab Aslam and Atif Aziz of Class Xth were declared Miss GNF and Mr. GNF respectively on the occasion to the thunderous applause of the audience.
The prize distribution was followed by a cultural programme wherein not only the hidden talent of children came to the fore but GNF School Principal A. Anwar's multi-faceted personality as an educationist, writer, poet, director etc., were also on display which impressed one and all who were present on the occasion. The cultural programme was marked by fancy dress of tiny-tots, Bal Kavi Sammelan, patriotic song, dance etc.
Anwar had put his heart and soul in preparing the children for various events with the help of the staff which also did not lag behind in making the occasion a memorable one. Anwar's rendering of numerous songs in his melodious voice, which were part of many items presented by the students, touched the heart and left a deep impression on the minds of the assemblage.
The highlight of the cultural programme was a drama "Bikharte Sapne" (Shattered dream), written and directed by the Principal Anwar, wherein how parents, who nurture their progenies from day one when they are born till they grow up and take their rightful places in society, are dumped in old age homes in the evening of their lives with their dreams shattered was depicted very succinctly. A soulful song written and rendered by the Principal himself narrating the children's betrayal action moved the hearts of many whose eyes welled up and were seen wiping out their tears.
Khatani released a hand-written "Science magazine on Water Conservation" brought out by the school to highlight the importance of water in life of living creatures. The magazine's patron is GNF School Principal A. Anwar while editor being Dr. (Mrs.) Parveen Alvi and Sub-Editor Miss Reshmi Ali.
Dr. (Mrs.) Alvi in her editorial of the magazine said: "There should be a subject 'Water Economics' taught in schools which may prepare our future generation. ........it is said by some very wise man that the third world war will be fought on the issue of water ........this magazine is conveying the message to the students that life is not possible without water.
Anwar from the Principal desk said: " The main aim of this magazine is to develop an awareness about water conservation and techniques of water conservation in the minds of the students".
An upcoming "Tabla" maestro Master Rohan Chaturvedi studying in Class VIIth of Sharda Vidya Mandir gave a presentation of "Tabla Vadan" which was much appreciated.
