Bhopal, 25 KM away from state capital of Madhya Pradesh. Mandideep Industrial

Mandideep is a city and a municipality in Raisen district in the Indian state of
Madhya Pradesh. As of 2001 India census, Mandideep had a population of 39,898.
Males constitute 56% of the population and females 44%. Mandideep has an average
literacy rate of 65%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy
is 73%, and
female literacy is 56%. In Mandideep, 18% of the population is under 6 years of
age.

It has an Industrial area, just south of Bhopal capitalising on the proximity to
Bhopal.
District
Raisen District is a district of Madhya Pradesh state of India. The town of
Raisen is the district headquarters. The district is part of Bhopal Division.
It is situated between the latitude 22 47' and 23 33' north and the longitude 77
21' and 78 49' east and is bounded in the west by Sehore District, in the north
by Vidisha District, in the east and south-east by Sagar District, and in the
south by Hoshangabad and Sehore districts. Raisen District takes its name from
massive fort. This fort is built
on a sandstone hill, at the foot of which settles the town. The name is probably
a corruption of Rajavasini or Rajasayan, the royal residence. Raisen District
lies in the central part of Madhya Pradesh. The total area of the District is
8,395 Sq. Km., which contains the 1.93 % of the State's area.
Mandideep is located near Bhopal, the capital of the state of Madhya Pradesh.
Bhopal is a beautiful city of lakes and hills located at a distance of about
700km to the south of Delhi. There are convenient flights and trains from Delhi
and Mumbai to Bhopal.
Mandideep has more than 600 factories. Some of the largest names of Indian
industry have their units in Mandideep.

History of Mandideep
In 1983, Mandideep housed 49 industrial units. Looking back through history,
Mandideep situated in close proximity to Bhojpur's Shiva temple was surrounded
by a big lake since the 10th century. In the 15th century, Sultan Hussein Shah
of Malwa attacked the Bhojpur temple and demolished the Bhojpur dam, which kept
releasing water for 30 years. Mandideep village came into existence when the
land dried up. In the last three decades, Mandideep has touched new heights of
industrial success.
Initially, the pace of development was slow due to lack of infrastructure.
Hindustan Electro Graphite (HEG) was the first industry to light the lamp of
industrialization in Mandideep.
In the 1980s, several changes helped industrial development. The Madhya Pradesh
State Industrial Development Corporation completely aided by the state
government was formed with the objective of promoting development of industries
in this region.
About 660 plots were developed for various purposes. Besides, 45 kms of 'pucca'
roads and a 42 km-long water supply system were developed.
In last three decades, Mandideep has touched new heights of industrial success.
Thirty years after industries first came up in Mandideep the industrial suburb
of the state capital is being compared with leading industrial centers. Either
to a sleepy village in Raisen district, Mandideep, which started on an area of
560 acre, is now sprawled across 2,000 acre. Mandideep has three sub-stations of
250 MW each at present along
with other facilities.
Mandideep houses more than 400 industrial units belonging to reputed companies
including that of Proctor and Gamble, HEG, LUPIN Laboratories, TAFE Tractors,
Godrej Foods, Insulator and Electrical etc. It boasts of a total investment of
Rs 4,000 crore.
The industrial area boasts of an export turnover to the tune of Rs 1,700 crore
and revenue of Rs 1,400 crore in form of central excise, commercial tax,
income-tax, property tax, etc.
